While in Scotland children attend school five days a week, in Kenya it is usually one day more. That is why we decided to continue our successful week of workshops and dedicate our Saturday to approaching more children. We were welcomed by teachers in Makongeni Secondary School, who introduced us to around 120 students from Form 2 and 3. After the last few days’ school visits we were glad to have a smaller class where it is easier to interact with students on a more personal level.

Giving a short engineering presentation, we divided them into two groups to show them activities from civil and mechanical engineering. As always, the students were very engaged and appeared to be enjoying the activities. The staff then offered us a traditional lunch and we had a chance to try Ugali, which is a side made from maize flour and is usually eaten with a stew or vegetable.

Saying our goodbyes to the students and teachers, we headed towards the Maasai markets in the city centre. Experienced from our last visit, we were better prepared for all the attention from the vendors and bargaining with them. Knowing the wide range of offered products, most of us have already had in mind what we were looking for and weren’t as impulsive with our purchases as the last time. Still, we had a great time enjoying the atmosphere of the market and interacting with locals.
